After MDS house/office came Bongard House in 2004, then Marien House in 2010 and finally the fourth house Walter House in 2013. MDS Hostel began in 1999 with four boys. They occupied a small hall which is part of the MDS House. The boys used to study, sleep and eat in the same hall. We are really blessed with the visit of Fr. Heinz Bongard in 2001. Impressed by our lifestyle, Fr. Bongard expressed his great desire to have a boarding built for the boys. This idea was a surprise for MDS. We were also very reluctant to have a separate building as a hostel due to various reasons.
Finally it was decided to have a boarding for the boys. Fr. Bongard and friends together helped us to obtain the funds and so we built a big hostel expecially for the boys. We named it as Bongard House. It was blessed by Fr. Bongard on the 24th October 2004. By this time, the number of boys increased to 35. Bongard House can accommodate 100 boys. Then came a great inspiration from Mr. Walter Wiese, the architect of Bongard House. During his visits to MDS and some of the villages, he thought of a great idea –Education for the Girls. This too was discussed at length and finally we agreed to admit girls in MDS boarding. We started with four girls and they too were housed in the same hall which is part of MDS. This hall was earlier used for several training programmes for men, women and the youth of Melghat.
Gradually the number of girls increased and so we had to build an interim Girls House which we named Marien House. Now this house is used for multipurpose. At present it is a training centre for basic non-formal education for our High School students in tailoring, carpentary, welding, electrician and plumbing. With the generous assistance of our friends in Germany, we built a huge house “Walter House”, for the girls which can accommodate 150 girls.
